
Spring 2008 Restoration Seminar
Using Natural History Collections for Research and Conservation.

The seminar will introduce students to the unique interplay of scientific collections and ecological restoration. Lectures, discussions, and projects will explore the origins, philosophy, methods, and research conducted using scientific collections. Students will use UCSB's collections of plants and animals for small projects throughout the quarter.

| April 21st | Brian Haggerty | Project Budburst and hands-on use of herbarium specimens (Students turn in their collections to dry) |

| May 5th | Mark Holmgren | Vertebrate Collections, Part Two. Also, demonstration on vouchering; info regarding how different types of specimens are preserved; tour of vertebrate collections |
| May 12th | Jennifer Thorsch | Hands on – Herbarium mounting of student collections. Students independently complete project with list of species |
| May 19th | Paul Collins | Using Museum Specimens for Eagle Diet analysis on the Channel Islands |
| May 26th | Holiday | Memorial Day |
| June 2nd | Project Presenters | Students present their projects and synthesize class |
